Our story
It began in a mother’s kitchen
Akar Wangi started with an ordinary wish: to know exactly what our own family was eating. That question turned out to have no easy answer, and looking for one is how we ended up with a greenhouse.

Growing since 2016
I began with a few trays and a great deal of reading. What I wanted was simple enough to say and hard to buy: greens I could serve my children without wondering what had been sprayed on them.
The first years taught me that the hard part is not growing things. The hard part is staying with a decision when it costs you. Every season there is a moment when the harvest would be larger, or arrive sooner, if we relaxed about pesticides. We have not, and that is the whole of our promise.
Today Akar Wangi grows one hundred and nine varieties — edible flowers, microgreens, edible leaves, herbs, baby vegetables, lettuce and tisane — all of them in our own greenhouse in Bandung. We are not a distributor. Nothing on our list was grown by somebody else.

What we look after
Four things we hold to
No pesticides
We have grown without them since the beginning, and we keep to it in the seasons when it costs us yield. It is the same standard we use at our own table.
Grown by us
Every variety on our list comes from our own greenhouse. When something is between harvests we say so, rather than buying it in from elsewhere.
Picked for the kitchen
Flowers are cut in the morning with dry petals, which is why they do not brown in the chiller. Herbs go out within the window where the aroma is still at its peak.
Honest about what we are
We do not carry an organic certificate, so we do not use the word. We would rather tell you precisely how we grow and let you judge it.
From seed to your kitchen
How a tray becomes a delivery
01
Sowing
Seed goes into clean media in our own greenhouse. Nothing is bought in half-grown.
02
Eight to twenty-one days
Depending on the variety. We watch water and light rather than reach for shortcuts.
03
Morning harvest
Cut on the day it ships, with dry petals and leaves, so nothing arrives already tired.
04
Straight to the kitchen
Packed the same morning and sent out to Jakarta, Bandung, Bogor, Sukabumi, Semarang, Yogyakarta and Surabaya.
